What is accident insurance?

Accident insurance provides cash benefits that can help
cover medical bills and other costs after an injury whether or not you have health insurance. It’s
a simple way to get financial support for things like emergency room visits, broken bones, or
even lost wages if you’re unable to work

What Accident Insurance Usually Covers:

Medical Costs:
● Emergency room visits
● Hospital stays and overnight care
● Doctor visits and specialist care
● X-rays, MRIs, and other diagnostic tests
● Surgery (in- or outpatient)
● Physical therapy and rehab

Injury-Specific Payouts

You may receive a lump-sum payment for specific injuries, such as:

● Broken bones
● Dislocations
● Burns
● Concussions
● Cuts requiring stitches
● Torn ligaments or tendons
● Eye injuries
● Dental injuries (due to accidents)

Additional Expenses

● Ambulance transport (ground or air)
● Medical equipment (like crutches or braces)
● Follow-up care
● Lodging and travel (if treatment is far from home)
● Accidental death or dismemberment (in more serious cases)

Non-Medical Costs

Because the payout goes directly to you, you can also use it for:

● Lost income while you're recovering
● Childcare
● Rent, groceries, or other daily expenses

What Accident Insurance Usually Doesn't Cover:

Non-Accidental Illnesses

● Colds, flu, infections
● Cancer, diabetes, or heart disease
● COVID-19 or other viral illnesses
(These are typically covered by health insurance or critical illness insurance)

Pre-Existing Conditions
● Injuries or medical issues you had before getting the policy
(Some plans have a waiting period or may exclude these altogether)

Self-Inflicted Injuries
● Injuries caused intentionally
● Suicide attempts

Injuries from High-Risk Activities
● Extreme sports (skydiving, racing, etc.)
Illegal activities or while under the influence of drugs/alcohol
(Some policies may still cover sports injuries — always check the fine print)

Work-Related Injuries
● Injuries that happen on the job may be covered under workers’ compensation, not
accident insurance
(Check if your accident plan includes or excludes work-related events)

Mental Health Issues
● Therapy, counseling, or psychological trauma not caused by a physical accident
